Tri & Tri again ?

" Flying Triangles over Walthamstow, you're joking , as the case may be, probably not."

It was Monday 8th December 1997 at 11.37am and I was standing on the steps in the garden that lead to the patio doors of the living room. My house is situated in the Billet Road area of Walthamstow, East London. I had been standing there for about five minutes when my attention was drawn to a jet possibly military and I thought to myself "I wonder where that's going?" When at that moment, my mother appeared on the steps beside me and I commented to her what I had just seen and pointed in the direction of the jet. It was then that my mother mentioned that there was another object close to it. I said that it was most probably a plane, as at that time I could not see the object that she was referring to.

I asked her to point the object out, as I wasn't able to see it. At this point, she started walking down to the bottom of the garden and then pointed up. I looked in the direction that she was indicating, only to see, to my disbelief and amazement, an object that was black, hovering and triangular in shape. I then closely observed the object for about five seconds.

Being a Ufologist, I didn't need to be told twice, I knew exactly what I was looking at. I turned and ran back into the house to retrieve my handy cam as I mentioned earlier, I am a keen Ufologist and therefore make sure that my handy cam is always ready for an emergency. I grabbed the video camera and quickly loaded the battery and thankfully didn't need to insert a tape as there is always one ready loaded just in case. I rushed back out to the garden (about 30 seconds had now passed) and ran down the end of the garden where my mother was still standing, turning the camera on as I ran. I reached the spot where my mother was standing, pointed the handy cam up to the sky and . . . . . it had gone, the object had gone I couldn't believe it. not willing to be defeated, I continued to pan the sky for about a minute.

I then asked my mother where the object had gone, to be told that she had not seen the object leave its position. But the fact still remained it had gone. I thought to myself that it could not have gone far, so I continued to pan the sky further. As I searched, I noticed another jet come into view. I zoomed in on the jet and recorded it for approximately five seconds, when my mother, who was still standing with me shouted, "What's that there?" Just then a black object came into view on the handy cam viewfinder. To give you an idea of the size of the object, my mother had spotted it with the naked eye (and she wears glasses) from our vantage point. I would say that looking through the viewfinder, the object the size of a one penny coin at arms length. All the time that I had been panning the sky, I had been recording the sequence of events, which were as follows:

I had been recording the jet come into view and then so did the black object. It went across the sky and seemed to intercept the jet, then it dived into the clouds, came out, went back in again, but this time did not come into view again. I carried on recording for a further three minutes, hoping that the object would reappear, but it never did. I turned and ran back into the house and up to my bedroom, with my mother following close behind. I replayed the film that I had just recorded in the garden, making sure at the same time to record the footage onto a VHS cassette.

I watched the video a number of times before consulting with two ELUFON colleagues. They both came round to my house and on viewing the footage of the black object frame by frame, all three of us decided to investigate further. The first piece of the investigation was carried out by one of the previously mentioned ELUFON team.

Roy Hale telephoned the Ministry of Defence and although they would not commit to an answer over the phone, they said they would do some checks. A few days later, we were in the possession of a letter saying that there was no military activity in the area and that nothing had shown up on Radar and therefore no air space invasion security threat! Now where have I heard that remark before?! So, as usual, the MoD have said they had nothing in that area, and we at ELUFON have a written letter stating that they had nothing in the area. But what we did forget to tell them (accidentally on purpose of course) was that the entire event had been captured on video.

Therefore, this begs the question: what was the object and where had it come from? So we contacted another colleague, who offered to do some close analysis of the object that had been recorded. It was about one week later when we ventured up to Finchley to meet with our colleague who had offered to analyse the footage and left a copy of the video in his possession. Hopefully, by the time this article goes to print, we would have the final enhanced prints back.

Meanwhile, Roy had contacted the local Walthamstow Yellow Advertiser paper and placed an article in it about the sighting. I must admit, I did not hold out much hope that any one else would have seen the same object and therefore did not expect any replies from the press release. We had many calls from witnesses of separate UFO sightings and so I was pleasantly surprised and a little bit dubious when we received a phone call from an elderly gentleman claiming to have seen the same object. I confided in my colleague and asked him if he had mentioned any details to the witness, for example had he inadvertently stated the time/date/actions or the fact that I had recorded the object on video.

The answer from Roy was that he had definitely not mentioned any details of my observations at all. Feeling quite intrigued by this revelation, Roy and I arranged to meet with this gentleman.

On Saturday 17th January 1998, we were invited to meet the gentleman and his wife at their house in Chingford, Essex. From this moment on, and with the full support of the gentleman and his wife, I will call them by their real names Fredrick and Dorothy. We arrived at their house at approximately 3.10pm and were met with a strong handshake and spoke with the couple for about one hour before finally seeking permission from Fredrick, to record the main details of his account on video.

Fredricks account of his sighting, in his own words, is as follows.

"I was sitting in the sun lounge, having just finished work in the garden. I was sitting by the window having a cup of tea when I looked up and saw this peculiar object. It disturbed me really, because it looked so unnatural and it looked like something you would see in a science fiction magazine. it gave me quite a shock the first time I saw it, which was when it was some distance away, but it was travelling from East to West and it looked like it was the same height as the normal passenger planes that pass overhead on their normal route to Heathrow. I'm certain of the height that they travel, and this was the same height. The day was clear and there was a high cloud level in the sky.

But as the object came closer, I could definitely see that it was black and triangle in shape. The front of the triangle seemed to be thin and there did not seem to be any fuselage or nose cone on the object. I was so excited by what I had just seen, that I ran to the living to get my wife and show her what I had just seen, but then realized that my wife was next door with the neighbours. So I went back out in the garden and it was still travelling even keel from East to West. The object was not travelling fast, but it was certainly moving. But as it got level to where I live, it turned nose up, tail down and then spiralled upwards. It did not spin on its axis, it just did a spiral, like a falling leaf would if it was falling to the ground, but only it was going upwards.

I could see the shape of it still, as it spiralled up into the clouds at an amazing speed, to my mind and all I could see was a dot as the object disappeared high into the clouds".

Fredrick said the object would be about the size of a fifty pence piece, at arms length. It is also worth noting, that Fredrick and Dorothy live about half a mile from me so it is very possible that what Fredrick and I saw, was a similar or quite possibly the same object. After Fredrick had told us of his account, I questioned him for further details of his sighting and am now quite sure that we both saw the same object. It was then that I showed him the footage I had taken from my garden of the object and he was gratified that someone else had seen the same object.

Fredrick hasl helped us with our investigation and I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Fredrick and Dorothy for their full co-operation and kind hospitality during this investigation.
